Before I became a mom I never thought of how I would miss simple pleasures. Aaaahhh simple pleasures…. like going to the bathroom by myself or taking two minutes to brush my teeth or sleeping in until 7:00am. The simple pleasure I miss the most is taking a shower. Now that doesn’t mean that I haven’t taken a shower in the last three years, it just means I don’t take them every day.
Recently, my husband went away for two days and that is when I realized just how much I missed taking a shower. It is a good thing that my children love me so much, they didn’t even seem to notice the ‘not so clean smell’ that was oozing from my body. However, my stinky armpits and greasy hair did not stop us from playing from sun up to sun down.
Finally, the end of the second day arrived and I heard my favorite sound, the garage door opening, which meant my husband was home! I gave him a warm welcome home hug and kiss and said, “as soon as we get the kids to bed all I want to do is………take a shower!” That night my shower was simply divine.
Motherhood continually teaches me so many lessons of life. The lesson I have learned here is to not take any one shower for granted. I relish in the simple pleasure of showering, especially because I never can be quite certain when my next shower will come.
